Memorial Day Traffic Safety Campaign

Memorial Day Traffic Safety Patrols

Sheriff Mark Curran announced the Lake County Sheriff’s Office is conducting Memorial Day traffic safety patrols beginning Friday, May 18 through Tuesday, May 29, 2018. Funding for this traffic safety campaign is made possible through a grant provided by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the National Highway Administration, and is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Sheriff Mark Curran stated, “The Memorial Day holiday kicks off the summer travel season. Our goal is to make sure the summer travel season is safe for motorists and their passengers. Drunk drivers will be arrested, and we are reminding motorists and passengers to buckle up.”

Chief Petrillo further stated, “Click-It or Ticket isn’t about citations, it’s about safety. According to IDOT, Illinois has a 93.8% observed seat belt usage rate, but a disproportionate number of fatalities involve unbelted motorists and passengers. Of the 1,093 traffic deaths in 2017, where restraint use was known, 54% of those killed were not wearing seat belts. We are stepping up enforcement to prevent crash fatalities. Motorists are encouraged to buckle up and require the same for their passengers.”

Motorists can expect to see increased patrols and enforcement zones across Lake County as part of the DUI patrols.
