Juveniles (under 18) account for 27.4% of the Lake County population. Each year, the Lake County juvenile justice system sees over a thousand cases ranging from delinquency to theft. An average of 580 cases are usually admitted to detention (2007 to 2012).
Admission to juvenile detention is usually given to juvenile offenders who pose a risk to the community in terms of further delinquency. Detention provides the most intense type of monitoring of a case than any other service provided directly by the division while also protecting the safety of the community.
